Africa Fest is the first charitable, annual African festival in Leicester, Leicestershire & Rutland. Created by Leicester based charity Second Genesis in 2023, the festival seeks to develop stronger relations between all community groups, as they will gain greater understanding about continental and heritage African culture and develop a balanced perspective, which is not influenced by negative and damaging historical distortions and inaccuracies.

Who organises Africa Fest?
Africa Fest is a new, local charitable festival founded by Second Genesis. It was created in 2023 to combat concerns of increasing race based hate crimes and work towards improving communal cohesion, peaceful co-existence and respecting diversity.
What does Africa Fest aim to do?
The festival is a charitable, open air performing arts / awareness event that aims to promote community cohesion, diversity valuing, inter-communal respect, community safety / crime prevention and harmonious relations within Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland. We are particularly interested in forming partnerships with statutory and voluntary organisations as well as private enterprise.
Why was Africa Fest created?
There exists an indispensable requirement to promote inter-cultural education, open dialogue and racial/diversity awareness in all progressive communities. Collectively working towards these ideals will have tremendous outcomes for present and future community relations in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland.
The festival will use the performing arts, awareness raising events and community leadership to help promote:
1. community cohesion and mutual inter-communal respect.
2. improved community relations with statutory agencies.
3. anti-racial discrimination.
4. community safety / development and crime prevention.
5. intercommunal collaboration, communication and multi-agency / community joint working.
6. overcoming barriers to diversity and increasing community involvement / engagement.
7. Celebrating Leicester's proud historical heritage of resistance to racial discrimination.
